PAC
Contributions to FPA-PAC are strictly voluntary. You may
decide not to contribute to FPA-PAC without fear of reprisal or
disadvantage, and you will not be favored or disfavored as a result
of your decision regarding such a contribution. Contributions are
not deductible for federal income tax purposes. Contributions made
by corporations are prohibited. Only U.S. citizens and persons
admitted to the U.S. for permanent residence may contribute to
FPA-PAC. Federal law requires political action committees to
report the name, home mailing address, occupation, and name of
employer for each individual whose contributions aggregate in
excess of $200 in a calendar year.

FPA Member Privacy Statement
The Financial Planning Association ("FPA" or "we") is an independent, non-profit organization with more than 29,000 individual and affiliated members. We want to demonstrate FPA's commitment to your privacy as a FPA member by disclosing our information practices in connection with the collection and use of personally identifiable information. As a FPA member ("you"), we are disclosing to you in this document:
1. what personally identifiable information of yours is
collected from you when becoming a FPA member and by accessing
FPA's Web site at http://www.fpanet.org/;
2. how the information is used;
3. with whom the information may be shared;
4. what choices are available to you regarding collection, use and
distribution of the information;
5. the kind of security procedures that are in place to protect the
loss, misuse or alteration of information under FPA control;
and
6. how you can correct any inaccuracies in the information.
FPA does not disclose any nonpublic personal information about our members to third parties except as described in this document or as otherwise required by law. If you feel that FPA is not abiding by its posted privacy policy, you should first contact FPA's Member Services Department at 800.322.4237 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. EST, or e-mail membership@fpanet.org.
Information Collection and Use
FPA is the sole owner of the information collected on
www.fpanet.org (the "Web site") and from membership applications.
We will not sell, share, or rent this information to others in ways
different from what is disclosed in this statement. FPA also
collects information from our users at several different points on
our Web site and through other means, such as meeting registration
forms.
Member Information
In order to be a member of FPA, you must complete an application
form and, once a year thereafter, update your contact information
on a renewal form. FPA reserves the right to share data that we
collect from members with affiliated FPA chapters and for other
restricted purposes. During membership application or renewal, we
request your business and home contact information (such as name,
address, telephone number and e-mail address) as well as your
social security number.
FPA collects your business contact information for several reasons: 1) it is generally the preferred contact address by members receiving membership information from FPA, both electronic or regular mail; 2) we share this information with a local FPA chapter or chapters for the purpose of providing you information about local member benefits, services and educational programs; 3) we use it for membership surveys to better serve you in the future; 4) we may provide temporary and restricted access to independent academic or market researchers on the financial planning profession; and 5) for restricted direct marketing purposes by third-party vendors.
With the exception of information shared with FPA chapters, all other third parties with whom business contact information is shared are prohibited from releasing the information to anyone else or from using it for purposes other than those outlined above. E-mail addresses and social security numbers are not shared with third parties except FPA chapters and organizations that provide continuing education credits if you apply for such credits in connection with one of our educational offerings. FPA chapters are strongly encouraged to adopt a privacy policy similar to FPA's policy. We encourage you to contact your local chapter to determine how your information is used by your local affiliate.
FPA collects your home contact information for two reasons. First, to expand FPA's grassroots database solely for legislative advocacy by matching your residential zip code (and you, as a voter) to members of Congress and state legislators; and second, to contact you if mail to your business address is returned to FPA.
None of your home information is shared with any outside third-party vendor except with respect to technical services necessary to maintain or audit FPA's database. These outside vendors are prohibited from sharing your home contact information with anyone else, unless you have provided your home address as your primary contact information. If you have given us only your home contact information on your membership application or renewal, then you must contact us if you do not wish to share it with third party vendors for marketing purposes. Please contact the Member Services Department at 800.322.4237 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. EST, or e-mail membership@fpanet.org if you wish not to share your information with third party vendors.
Contact Information on FPA Planner Search Web Site and
the FPA Member Directory
If you participate in FPA's Planner Search referral program or
choose to be listed in the FPA Member Directory, information that
you have posted on the site, such as your e-mail address and other
contact information, may be "scraped," or copied, from our Web site
by third parties who may use this information to market products or
services to you. Please be aware that FPA has no way of controlling
information posted on a publicly accessible Web site and that you
are solely responsible for any information posted in connection
with Planner Search and/or the FPA Member Directory.
FPA Internet Mail
As part of its membership benefits and services, FPA may
electronically mail news of professional interest to you, including
information on FPA products and services, via the Internet. If you
do not wish to receive any information from us over the Internet,
there are several ways to opt out. You may opt out when you fill
out your membership application on your renewal statement or by
contacting the Member Services Department at 800.322.4237 between 9
a.m. and 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
FPA Web Site Surveys, Conference and Product
Orders
We request information from the user on our order form when
planning to attend a FPA conference or to purchase a product or
service from us. Attendees must provide contact information (such
as name and shipping address) and financial information (credit
card number, expiration date). This information is used for billing
purposes and to fill customer's orders. If we have trouble
processing an order, this contact information is used to get in
touch with the user.
FPA may also post surveys on its Web site that collect information from the respondent. Such information is not distributed to third parties but is used for purposes of monitoring and/or improving the FPA Web site or other member services.
FPA members can update their membership records by calling the Member Services Department at 800.322.4237 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Cookies
A "cookie" is a piece of data stored on the user's hard
drive containing information about the user. Some cookies track
sites visited by the Internet user and your browser for marketing
purposes. FPA's Web site does not employ this kind of cookie. The
cookies in our Web site are used:
• So that the Cold Fusion engine that enables our
database-driven site knows which information to return to your
browser.
• So that forms (such as conference registration, membership
renewals, etc.) are pre-filled during a visit in which you have
logged in to the site.
No personally identifiable information is stored on your computer between visits to the FPA web site. This is to ensure both your security and that of FPAnet. To access the members-only section of FPAnet, the member's browser MUST be set to accept cookies.
Log Files
We use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer our Web
site, track user's movement, and gather broad demographic
information for aggregate use. IP addresses are not linked to
personally identifiable information.
Information Sharing
FPA member lists may be sold on a restricted basis to
vendors who market financial planning products and services to you.
The only information provided to vendors is mailing lists with your
business contact information and limited demographic data (or your
home address if you list it as your primary contact). As mentioned
earlier, other personally identifiable information such as your
social security number, credit card information used for paying for
products or for membership, and your home contact information (with
the exception mentioned above for information shared with FPA
chapters), are not shared with any third-party. E-mail addresses
are not shared with third-party vendors except FPA chapters. Please
consult with your local chapter to determine how e-mail addresses
are handled.
At times, we may share business telephone numbers with third party companies for purposes of surveying our members. These third parties are prohibited by contract from sharing this information with anyone else or for any other purpose other than assisting FPA in developing better products and services for its members.
We will share demographic information with our partners and advertisers.
We use an outside shipping company to ship orders, and a credit card processing company to bill users for goods and services. FPA prohibits these companies in its contractual agreements from retaining, sharing, storing or using personally identifiable information for any secondary purposes.
We may partner with another party to provide specific services. When the user signs up for these services, we will share names, or other contact information that is necessary for the third party to provide these services. These parties are not allowed to use personally identifiable information except for the purpose of providing these services.
Links
FPA's Web site contains links to other sites. Please be
aware that we are not responsible for the privacy practices of such
other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our
site and to read the privacy statements of each and every Web site
that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy
statement applies solely to information collected by FPA's Web
site.
Surveys & Contests
From time to time FPA may request information from users
who participate in our surveys and contests, either via our Web
site, e-mail, or other media. Participation in these contests is
completely voluntary and the user therefore has a choice whether or
not to disclose this information. Information requested may include
contact information (such as name and shipping address), and
demographic information (such as zip code, age level). Contact
information will be used to notify any winners of prizes.
Security
This Web site takes every reasonable precaution to protect our
users' information. When users submit sensitive information via the
Web site, your information is protected both online and off-line to
the best of FPA's ability. When our registration/order form asks
users to enter sensitive information (such as credit card number
and/or social security number), that information is encrypted and
is protected with one of the leading encryption software in the
industry - Secure Sockets Layer ("SSL"). While on a secure page,
such as our order form, the lock icon on the bottom of Web browsers
such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer becomes
locked, as opposed to unlocked, or open, when you are just surfing.
Verisign (http://www.verisign.com) is the company that provides
encryption for the FPA Web site. While we use SSL encryption to
protect sensitive information online, we also use reasonable
efforts to protect member information off-line. All of our members'
information collected by us, not just the sensitive information
mentioned above, is restricted in our offices. If you have any
questions about the security at our Web site, you can send an email
to webmaster@fpanet.org.
Special Offers
Established members will occasionally receive information on
products, services, special deals, and newsletters exclusively from
FPA. As mentioned earlier, we do not share e-mail addresses of
members with third parties. Out of respect for the privacy of our
users we present the option to not receive these types of
communications. Please see our choice and opt-out policy below.
Site & Service Updates
We also send to FPA members site and service announcement updates.
Members are not able to un-subscribe from service announcements,
which contain important information about the service. We
communicate with the user to provide requested services and in
connection with issues relating to their account via email or
phone.
Correction/Updating Personal Information
If a member's personally identifiable information changes (such as
your zip code), or if a person drops membership, we will endeavor
to provide a way to correct, update or remove that member's
personal data provided to us. This can usually be done by e-mailing
our Member Services Department at membership@fpanet.org.
Choice/Opt-out
FPA members are given the opportunity to 'opt out' from having
their information used for purposes not directly related to our Web
site, at the point where we ask for the information. For example,
our membership and order forms have 'opt-out' mechanisms so users
who buy a product from us, but don't want any marketing material
from FPA, can keep their e-mail address off of our lists. Users who
no longer wish to receive our electronic communications may opt out
of receiving these communications by replying to the email with
"unsubscribe" in the subject line, or email us at membership@fpanet.org.
Notification of Changes
If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those
changes on our Web site, linked from the Member home page so that
our members and other users are always aware of what information we
collect, how we use it, and under which circumstances, if any, we
disclose it. If at any point we decide to use personally
identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at
the time it was collected, we will notify members. Members will
have a choice as to whether or not we use their information in this
different manner. We will use information in accordance with the
privacy policy under which the information was collected.
