Upon arrival, you will meet with program mentors who are successful and experienced CFP® practitioners and fellow residents in the program.

Orientation

The initial orientation will provide you with a better understanding of program objectives  and expectations. After orientation, you will be assigned to a mentor and team of residents. As you progress through three case studies, your team will have the opportunity to work on a variety of technical areas.

Case Studies

The three case studies address financial and life issues facing the same client as their situation changes over a period of years. The case study process includes:

  • Role playing with mentors assuming the role of the client and the role of financial planning firm partners
  • Mentor panel discussions on various issues relating to client interaction
  • Team breakout sessions to review client facts and profiles and develop pertinent client questions and case solutions
  • Team presentation of case study to mentors, with feedback from mentors
  • General sessions and rap sessions designed to address some of the more pressing practice management issues facing new planners. Although residency is not a practice management program, rap sessions allow you to talk with successful financial planners (mentors) and learn how they have dealt with some of the basic issues you face.
