James R. Johnson, CFP®

Jim believes a financial planner's job is to assist clients in managing their financial affairs so they can lead the life they want to lead. His clients describe him as caring, open and straightforward as well as providing strategies that work and perform well.

He is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA). He was the founding President of the Sacramento Society of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners (ICFP). He is also Past President of the Sacramento Chapter, International Association for Financial Planning (IAFP). Both are predecessor organizations to the FPA. Jim was awarded the 2000 Financial Planning Association of Northern California Chapter Outstanding Service Award for advancing the Vision of the FPA and was named Certified Financial Planner of the Year in 1997 by the Sacramento Society of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners. Jim served on the National FPA Career Development Committee and has been chaired the national FPA Bridge the Gap conference for new financial planners.

He is a retired adjunct faculty member of the College of Financial Planning and a former instructor at California State University, Sacramento, Regional & Continuing Education and an instructor at University of California, Davis, University Extension Professional and Continuing Education.

Jim is also committed to community service and is Past President, Sacramento Suburban Kiwanis Club and Past Lt. Governor of Kiwanis Division 44. He is a former member of the Board of Trustees & Treasurer of Sacramento Waldorf School and is involved in the CSUS Alumni Association, Business School Chapter.

Jim has been involved in the martial arts for many years as a student of Taekwondo, Kuk Sool Won, Kajukembo and Doces Pares/Eskrima. Jim and his wife, Ruth, are recent "empty nesters" enjoying travel and the outdoors.
